Cybercriminals are increasingly impersonating postal services around the world through SMS phishing (smishing) scams. In these scams, the criminals send text messages that look like they're from your postal service, saying that your package can't be delivered until you provide additional information. The text message will contain a link, which, if clicked, will take you to a fake postal service website. If you enter your credit card details on this website, the bad actors could steal your money, personal information or your identity. Here are some tips to stay safe from smishing scams:
- Never click on links in text messages that you weren't expecting.
- Be wary of entering payment information on a website that you accessed through a text message. Instead, go directly to the organization's official website.
- If you receive any suspicious messages, report them to the organization or law enforcement agency that is being impersonated.
Remember that smishing scams can happen with any type of business, not just postal services. Be vigilant and always protect your personal and financial information.
